Why ERV?

We readily admit ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilation) is more expensive than ASD (Active Subsoil Depressurization). ASD installed in Ohio is roughly $1,200 to $1,900 while ERV may cost $3,000 to $5,000.

Although a substantial percentage of radon mitigation is done with ASD — at least where ASD is possible— ASD won’t work on many jobs, often because of subsoil conditions and foundation configurations.

ERV, on the other hand, works anywhere and purifies air, eliminating indoor pollutants in the process.

Purity is the pinnacle of ERV systems because it is sold as an entire system and uses a heat exchanger to bring replacement air to the same temperature as recovered air.

Certainly ERV is the ideal solution in areas where ASD is impractical. It’s ability to eliminate health-threatening indoor air pollutants makes the extra cost easier to sell. And, the ability to match ERV solutions to the size of the job makes it even easier to sell to homeowners who care about their family’s health. Purity² is often sold in conjunction with an ASD system making the entire mitigation process more efficient.

RADON MITIGATION

When ASD Won’t Work
Subsoil depressurization due to:

  • Compacted Soil

  • Clay or wet Soil

  • Low crawl space

  • Multiple foundations

  • Multi-level foundations

  • Drain tile inside foundation

  • Excessive space

  • HOA objections

  • Finished basement

ERV Always Works
Energy recovery ventilation due to:

  • .77 ACH@2,000 sq. Ft.

  • .38 ACH@4,000 sq. Ft.

  • .3 ACH Industry Standard

  • Heat and AC 85% Saved

  • Creates positive pressure

  • Large 6” ducts

  • 350 M3/H, 206 CFM

  • Works at all levels RA

  • 35 DBA, 70 lbs.

THE PROBLEM is that radon is in the house, not that it is in the subsoil.

If you eliminate radon in the basement, the house will be mitigated also.
